Used as Solvent and Organic Synthesis of Diethyl Carbonate

1. Used as solvents for cellulose nitrate, cellulose ether, synthetic resin and natural resin in chemical production. Pharmaceutical earth is used in the manufacture of phenobarbital. The pesticide industry is used to make pyrethrums. Instrument industry is used to manufacture sealing fixing fluid. In analytical chemistry, it is used as chemical reagent and electrolyte composition of lithium ion batteries. It is also used in the preparation of special paint for vacuum tubes. In addition, diethyl carbonate is an important reagent and carrier for organic synthesis.

2. Diethyl carbonate is a common carbonylation reagent, which can be used to synthesize ketones, tertiary alcohols and heterocyclic compounds. In addition, diethyl carbonate can also be used as alkylation reagent of silicone carbonate and nucleophilic substrates.

Carbonyl diethyl carbonate with carbon anion is often used for carbonylation of enol anion. The reaction conditions are mild and the yield is high. In the reaction process, sodium hydride, potassium hydride, LDA (or its mixture) can be used as alkali. At the same time, the choice of substrates is widespread, most of the molecules with electron-withdrawing groups (such as carbonyl, cyano, ester and enamine) can be carbonylated at the alpha-position.

Two ethyl carbonate

The synthesis of ketones and tertiary alcohols directly reacts with diethyl carbonate to produce ketones or tertiary alcohols, such as the synthesis of corresponding ketones from imidazole.

Alkylation or allylation under appropriate conditions, using palladium-triphenylphosphine as catalyst, can realize alkylation or allylation of beta-carbonyl ester, beta-dione, malonate, cyanide and nitro compounds.

Many substrates for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds can react with diester carbonates to form heterocyclic compounds. For example, 1,2-aminols can react with diethyl carbonate to form oxazolidinones.

3. Used as solvent and organic synthesis.
